Ok! Let’s do this. Name is a work in progress, so stay tuned.
But first, why Substack?
I love sharing finds with people when I’m asked (IRL and on social), and I’ve gotten feedback for a while that I should start tagging things. The thing is, I have a weird love hate relationship with social media (Instagram) especially over the last couple years, and I go through waves of staying off it. I love that it’s a great place to discover new products and people. Being in the fashion industry, it’s still the platform that brands with limited budgets rely on to get their name out there and find customers on. It makes me happy to support friends and budding businesses in that ecosystem— even if it’s just following along, DMing, liking, or commenting. I’d like to think that people really do appreciate those small but uplifting actions (I know I do), even if it sometimes feels superficial. And honestly, I love that it’s another way to keep up with friends and their lives. Give me all your cute baby/kid pics, please.
But I’m also human (and a woman and a mom), and I definitely have these moments where I just don’t feel great about myself after scrolling (what am I really getting out of this? why am I posting this? why am I spending so much time on here?). So I’m launching this Substack to 1. focus on sharing the products and things I’m into in a more deliberate way and to 2. have a bit of a creative outlet for myself, I suppose. I subscribe to various Substacks and I’ve enjoyed the experience so far.
I’ll try to keep this as visual as possible, but I figured the inaugural post deserved a little preamble. And I told Michael I would try to keep my grammatically incorrect, run-on sentences to a minimum. I will try.
Lastly, thanks for being here and reading. I really appreciate it :)
My Most Asked About Roundup
The Frankie Shop pants below. I love them so much, and if you’re thinking about it, just get them — they remind me of The Row but for a fraction of the price. I take an XS and I would say they run just a smidge large but would still recommend taking your normal size. The Olive color I’m wearing is almost sold out but the Camel color has a few more sizes left and I’m thinking about grabbing. You will have to hem them unless you’re 5’8 or up.
My chic friend influenced me on the J.Crew Men's cashmere sweater — it is a 10/10. Reminds me of everything I liked about J.Crew in my college years (high quality for a great price) and is something I’m currently wearing on repeat (size Small).
The Freda Salvador sneakers are a tried and true staple and the leather has held up beautifully over the years.
This is probably my most asked about item: Piper’s pearl necklace. She’s had a few versions of this necklace, including the pricier Beatrice Valenzuela one and the not-pricey-at-all Etsy one. I love that the BV one is strung on silk and has the gold ball clasp, but I like that the Etsy pearls are a little bigger. Also the Etsy one makes a great gift for her friends! I get Piper the 12” length and I have a matching 16” length, but there’s lots of length options.
Have taken this sweater for a spin a few times this winter and love it — bonus, it’s on sale right now and comes in other colors also on sale. I take a size 36. And yes(!) you can wear a bra with it (I like the CUUP plunge bra).
I get asked about this Dorsey necklace frequently — probably because I wear it with everything these days from blazers to sweatshirts. That, and the craftsmanship on the necklace is impeccable and hard to not notice. I think what I love the most about putting this on is how it makes any outfit feel pulled together without being overly “done up.”
The brand itself is all about high quality lab-grown gemstones and diamonds — much more environmentally friendly and affordable than mined diamonds. The founder, Meg Strachan, is just an incredible, authentic woman with such an eye and creative vision for things. If you’re curious about her story, I recommend listening to her interview on Second Life Podcast. It’s a good one.
I also recently pre-ordered these Dorsey earrings I’ve had my eye on for a while (they just restocked again, but have a tendency to sell out fast).
I’ve been spending more time in the back house, and it’s my favorite room now that we’ve finished furnishing it. Here’s the checkered rug. We’ve had it for about a year and it’s super durable, easy to clean, and has held up really well with the kids & their friends running in and out of here all the time.
The marble nesting tables. Important mom disclaimer: they are sturdy but not sturdy enough to support a toddler climbing on them.
Quickfire Round: Kids Edition
I’ll do a more dedicated kid-things post at some point but here’s a few top recent asks:
The kids’ pajamas. A friend turned me onto this brand last year and the kids love these pjs. This is Piper’s favorite print and Graham’s favorite. They are so soft and hold up really well with regular wash and regular toddler wear & activity.
Graham’s tennis shoes that I keep buying over and over again as he grows. I keep waiting for the day where he’ll tell me he wants a different color when it’s time to size up, but for now neon yellow reigns supreme. Side note: it’s become super hard to find the kids sizes in stock for this brand in the last year. I think I need to find a new sneaker brand/style for him if you can recommend a good one you prefer for the kiddos.
Graham’s multicolored grandpa cardigan. This one has been a fun ice breaker with other parents. On sale right now.
Piper’s Past Present Future sweatshirt that I like to pair with these purple sweatpants. Both on sale.
Piper’s bunny rabbit wallpaper. I find it particularly soothing to stare at when I’m nap-trapped in her rocking chair.
Also, the kids section here has become a treasure trove for finding some of my favorite brands on major discounts.
Leave a note if you have any feedback, comments or questions. This post was meant to be a mix of what I’ll try to go deeper into (e.g. outfits, kids things, best purchases I was influenced on, brands I admire, home things, Etsy gems, Amazon finds, etc.). I tried to comb through my more recent messages to put this particular roundup together, but let me know if there’s something you want to see for the next one.
Thanks again for subscribing and reading!
