Summer Skincare Things
My annual end-of-summer effort to reverse signs of sun damage + a couple outfits
I get asked a lot about my skincare routine, so wanted to chat a bit about that. I generally steer clear of recommending skincare items because I think it’s such a personal thing and so dependent on your skin type and your concerns. What works for me, might not work for you and vice versa. That said, the end of summer usually brings a resurgence of determination about wanting to take better care of my skin (after spending June and July out in the sun longer than I should be, not reapplying sunscreen probably as often as I need to be, etc.) and I wanted to pass along the things I’ve found most impactful for my skin.
The new Dr. Diamond’s Metacine line (just two products) is worth all the anticipated hype. This was billed to me as an alternative to botox, and since I’ve never done Botox (yet), I thought I would try it out. This stuff is amazing and I have both the Instafacial Plasma and the Emulsion and use them together. My skin looks and feels smoother as well as more plump. Not greasy, sinks in immediately.
My biggest concern right now is pigmentation. My sun spots get really pronounced in the summer and I don’t love it. I’ve been using this True Botanicals Chebula Serum (morning) along with the Phyto-retinol (night) and both have changed my skin in the best way. The clinical study about the Phyto-retinol working 2x better/faster than traditional retinol is what sold me. I wish I had taken some sort of before and after picture, but this pesky large sunspot on my right cheek has faded down quite a bit in just the 3 weeks of using both of these. I love how pure and clean the ingredients are from TB. I’ve also started using the body cream version of the phyto-retinol after seeing the results on my face.
I’ve linked this before, and I know it’s an investment — but I love my LED mask. It’s part of my wind down routine now, and I love that it has red light, infrared red, and blue light. I just put it on it’s automated 9 min cycle and scroll my phone while in bed.
I’ve been taking this collagen/hyaluronic powder, and I much prefer it to a popular competitor that’s out there — mostly because this one is delicious (tastes like lemonade) and I can mix with water. (My other powder had to be mixed with coffee, and I gave up coffee a few years ago, so this my first time back on a ingestible collagen supplement).
Lastly, I’m back in LA and getting back into our routine with the kids! It’s heatwaving here, but I’m mentally ready for fall and have been *trying* to think about more transitional weather dressing. Here’s what I’ve been wearing this week.

My very best,
Justine
